Guildmember, Prestige Residential Construction, honored with National Design Awards
February 11th, 2015 byPrestige Residential Construction, Guildmember since 2012, has been recognized with national design awards for two outstanding projects – The Contemporary Lakefront Home and the Book House.
The Contemporary Lakefront Home:
The Contemporary Lakefront Home, built in the Laurelhurst neighborhood of Seattle, WA, has been awarded a gold award for the One of a Kind Custom Home category in the 2014 Best in American LivingTM Awards (BALA) by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).
The owners of the Contemporary Lakefront Home, asked for a welcoming modern home with a seamless connection between indoors and out, a warm and elegant material palette, and a view of Mount Rainier. Squeezed between a narrow private lane and the lake, the main challenge was to create a sense of privacy while making the most of expansive views. The construction team responded with a main floor that flows from private entry courtyard through the great room and out to a series of waterfront entertaining spaces. Floor-to-ceiling lift-slide doors and blackened architectural and structural steel is used for exposed I-beam columns, the stair system and fireplace façade. The spaces melt together with a generous flow of fir ceiling, oak and walnut cabinets and weathered Marly limestone floors.
“This was a client we had done a remodel for in the past and they decided to buy a lot on the lake,” said Teresa Santerre, CEO of Prestige. “They came to us to build them a custom home that matched their vision and needs, and our team worked hard to create their dream home.”

The Book House:
The Book House, located in the Washington Park neighborhood of Seattle, WA has been awarded the Remodel of the Year award in the 2014 Best in American Living Awards (BALA) by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).
The interior of this brick Tudor style home was completely gutted. New materials are blackened, structural and architectural steel beams, columns and staircase partnered with rift white oak flooring, casework, interior doors, and minimalistic trim. With a now straight and flat building, smooth drywall became the canvas for bookshelves, art, and the unique skylight illuminated word wall. The elevator accessed upper floor master suite now has a sophisticated decor with contemporary finishes and fixtures and space planning maximized the master suites exceptional lake and mountain views.
“The owners of this home have been clients for years,” shared Santerre. “We had done 17 remodels on their prior home, most of them being smaller remodels, but this time they moved to downsize and chose a Burch Tudor. They wanted a space that would work for them as they aged, so we opened up the interior, added an elevator, and created a bedroom and bathroom that were easily accessible. They are high value clients and we’ve enjoyed having such a wonderful relationship with them over the years.”

“The Best in American Living Awards are the most prestigious awards of their kind, setting the benchmark for innovations in residential home design,” said 2014 BALA Chairman Stephen C. Moore, senior partner – marketing at BSB Design Inc. in Des Moines, Iowa. “We are proud to have a long history of honoring those who set the bar high by encouraging creativity, originality and imagination in our industry.”
The Best in American Living Awards program recognizes outstanding achievement by builders and design professionals in all sectors of the residential housing industry including single-family production, custom, rental, affordable, interiors, remodeling, community and international, based on the principle that good design is not, and should not be, limited to high-priced and/or custom homes. Even the simplest, most affordable homes can receive an award if they showcase good design.
Award winners were announced during the annual NAHB International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas. Teresa and Jeff Santerre, Principals of Prestige Residential Construction, were there to receive the awards.
