Are your customers telling you the whole truth?
With titles like “People Partner”, “Culture Keeper”, and “Chief Happiness Officer”, it’s no surprise that workplace environment and employee happiness has become quite the buzz amongst companies small and large alike.
Employee empowerment, increased productivity, low attrition – these are just a few of the side effects of a healthy and forward thinking company culture. And although culture is incredibly important for present employees, it also becomes a selling point and a point of conversation for potential new hires.
“Did you hear that XX company has a total open door policy?”
“I heard that XX company trusts their employees with an unlimited vacation policy and encourages travel and working from home when needed!”
When your organization begins to create an environment in which employees feel valued and trusted, knowing that they would be hard pressed to find that same environment elsewhere, you not only decrease your chance of turnover, but you ultimately increase your chance of referrals for new hires.
So what exactly makes a company culture unique?
Below are just a few things that are becoming increasingly common amongst the workplace:
ROWE (Results Oriented Work Environment) – employees are paid for output or results rather than punching a clock.
Open Door Policy – open communication with all levels of management without fear of backlash or being treated as though other’s opinions don’t matter.
Team Building – whether it be a weekly lunch and learn, monthly happy hours, or quarterly outings, leaders within a company are genuinely interested in their team and want to get to know them outside of the office.
Updated Work Space – gone are the days of tiny cubicles and large corner offices. More and more companies are adopting open floor plans where developers interact with sales executives and even the CEO can be found sitting next to the intern.
